Budget Fundraising - the art of raising small amounts of money from as many people as possible, as often as possible.
Capital Fundraising - the art of raising the most money by asking for it face to face from the smallest number of people in the shortest period of time at the least cost.
Major Gifts - programs to raise major funds during a specified period of time for research scholarships, endowments, equipment etc.
Public Benefit Organisation/Third Sector - is another term used for the Not-for-Profit sector. It refers to those organisations not part of the government or business sector and can involve organisations such as churches, charities, community organisations etc.
Philanthropy - is the effort to increase the well-being of humankind by charitable aid or donations.
Donor Pyramid - represents possibly the clearest explanation of modern fundraising, which combines public relations and fundraising programs in the areas of budget fundraising, capital fundraising and deferred or planned giving.
Institutional Advancement - is the total program of strategy review, fundraising, public relations, marketing, donor and other constituency program that make up the organisations effort to win understanding and build support.
Feasibility Study - provides a comprehensive evaluation of your organisation's potential to carry out a capital or major gifts campaign. It will determine your readiness to ask, also the community's preparedness to give to any major appeal.
A Bequest - is a gift made to your organisation or institution during the donor's lifetime, but which does not pass completely to the institution until some future date.
Development Program - provides the organisation with a plan of action that sets out fundraising strategies and establishes a time frame for completion. The Program is based on the results of the feasibility study.
Annual Giving Program - is designed to enlist a broad base of donors who will support the organisation faithfully year after year.
Case for Support - is the single most important document produced in support of your cause. This document outlines your urgent need and your dedication to the ethical and productive use of the funds raised during the Capital Fundraising Program.
Donors - individuals or organisations who are willing to support a particular cause and/or charitable organisation.
An Endowment Fund - is a pool of money specifically set aside to ensure the long term sustainability of an organisation. These monies may be used to fund ongoing research, projects, building etc.
